A thrilling compilation of three complete novels from bestselling author Noel Hynd's Russian Trilogy.

Conspiracy in Kiev

A shrewd investigator and an expert marksman, Special Agent Alexandra LaDuca can handle any case the FBI gives her. Or can she? While on loan from the US Department of the Treasury, Alex is tapped to accompany a Secret Service team during an American Presidential visit to Ukraine. Her assignment to keep personal watch over Yuri Federov, the most charming and most notorious gangster in the region.

Midnight in Madrid

When a mysterious relic is stolen from a Madrid museum, people are dying to discover its secrets. Literally. US Treasury agent Alexandra LaDuca returns to track down the stolen artwork, a small carving called The Pietà of Malta. It seems to be a simple assignment, but nothing about this job is simple, as the mysteries and legends surrounding the relic become increasingly complex with claims of supernatural power.

Countdown in Cairo

Federal agent Alexandra LaDuca travels to Egypt to investigate the possible sighting of a former mentor, a CIA agent whom everyone thought was dead. She is thrown into the deadliest game of double cross of her career as the events that began in Kiev and continued in Madrid find their culmination in the volatile Middle East. Her assignment is to locate a man she once knew. But to find the answers, Alex needs to move quickly into the underworld of the Egyptian capital, a nether society of crooks, killers, spies, and Islamic fundamentalists.

I don't usually post reviews because I only buy books that I'm absolutely sure I want to get and I'm absolutely sure I will enjoy. However, I thought 2.99 for a 1,000+ page spy thriller was worth taking a risk, so I got this impulse buy off the Amazon monthly deals list. I just wanted a good, long, entertaining read over Easter break - I had no idea that I had somehow managed to purchase Christian fiction. I should have been careful. I should have done my research like I usually do (and notice, for example, that this is from a Christian publisher). Imagine reading a James Bond novel while having Ian Fleming proselytize to you! I guess the old adage, "You get what you pay for" applies perfectly here.

The novel started off really exciting, but soon dwindled as I felt repeatedly hit over the head with Christian symbolism and salvation. When I feel the need for religious reading, I'll read the Bible, thank you very much. Nevertheless, I felt the need to keep plowing through... hoping that the book would swerve back from it's weird religious digressions back to being a spy novel. Instead, it went steadily down hill.

I also found the characters in the book to be lackluster. I'm a huge fan of classic spy fiction, but modern authors really need to move away from the cardboard cut stereotype figures. This book is full of them, and I kept hoping that they would grow or become more interesting. They didn't, they just got killed off every chapter like flies. The over all writing style is just not consistent - there are brief shining moments where things seem to be really getting exciting, interrupted by religious reflection by the main character and a bunch of unnecessary prose. Remember back in 3rd grade when your teacher first mentioned that authors should show, not tell? I felt Hynd spent a lot of time telling. And a good thriller is all about the "show".

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction. If you are familiar with, or even like religious fiction, you'll probably find this book a blast. For me personally, the preachy-ness wore thin, very very fast.

For other readers, if you're looking for some decent spy novels, I just recently finished a few by Ken Follet that were fantastic. He's the famous author of Pillars of the Earth, but before he started writing historical fiction, he wrote several spy thrillers full of multidimensional characters and intense, fast paced drama. If a tough female main character is what grabbed your eye about this trilogy, try The Jackdaws by Follet. I believe it is also available in Kindle, and one of the best I've read.

The Russian Three Complete Novels The Russian Trilogy edition by Noel Hynd Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I have to be honest, I bought these books, because I really have enjoyed other books by this author, but I have not read them yet.
I enjoyed these 3 books. I believe it needs some editing and the plot needs to be tightened up. There were still unanswered questions at the end. My biggest quibble is about the 5th (maybe 6th) chapter in the 3rd book where a person is illegally entering the US across the border with Canada "20 miles east of Buffalo". The author needs to look at a map of NY state. Yes - there are border crossings between the 2 countries in Buffalo and surrounding areas. However, at all points in this area, the US & Canada are separated by water Lake Erie, the Niagara River (with that really big, really dangerous natural wonder known as Niagara Falls)& Lake Ontario. 20 miles due east of Buffalo puts this character in the neighborhood of Clarence, Akron, Pendelton or Batavia, depending on where the measuring starts. To reach the border from any of these suburbs & towns, you would have to go north a number of miles (30, 40, 50?)& into the middle of Lake Ontario. Just saying....this is something that could have been easily determined by the author with minimal research.Sneaking across the border in the Buffalo area requires either a long, cold swim or a boat. Given how tightly the border in this area is monitored, the author would have been better to place his character in northern Vermont..or Maine..

One reviewer complained about this series being christian fiction - which I always try NEVER to read. This is not so much in your face as other christian fiction I have inadvertently downloaded. I never like it when authors attempt to preach their view of religion through his/her book characters, but I was able to overlook this character flaw since it was not so crazy as I've seen in other books.

All in all, a good story but the author would be served best by keeping track of the major items in his plot and then making sure that these issues get resolved. Just letting them slowly get lost by the 3rd book is not a good sign for continued success.
I would normally give this series of stories 4-5 stars............ The story line, character development, narrative and writing style is really quite good, on par with many successful Best Seller authors. I really liked the stories and would recommend them, HOWEVER............

BE WARNED, these stories are liberally laced with Christian proselytizing.

Now, I respect the author's obvious personal beliefs and don't have a problem with religious components when it materially adds to the story line or character development. Unfortunately, the frequent "faith" references throughout this series of books come across as a bit superfluous and contrived. In MY opinion, the reader is left feeling like the author has another agenda other then telling an entertaining story or building a narrative relevant to the plot. So much so, I found it really overwhelmed the story lines without adding anything. It was the elephant in the room.

Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive or too PC? Not that it should matter, but it would appear that I share the Author's religious affiliation, nonetheless, I found this aspect of his writing really put me off the stories and caused me not to finish the third of this three-part collection. For this reason, I found this so distracting that I gave the rating 1 star.

In summary REALLY good writing and story......but the Bible Thumping put me off. He has the right to write it this way. I have the right not to want to read more.

I encourage readers to give these stories a try, but know what to expect.
